"Mengele's Children"
"Uncle Mengele"
Dr. Mengele was known to have an interest in people that were "different" such as dwarfs and especially twins due to their genetics. Dr. Mengele was in charge of selection which is how he often picked out the twins. They were known as Mengele's children. The twins were usually picked and were separate from the rest of the prisoners and had their own barrack. They didn't have to do hard labor and often acted as messengers. They even were allowed to play games such as soccer. The twins also were spared from punishments and didn't participate in selections within the camp sometimes. They didn't fear Dr. Mengele too much and often called him "Uncle Mengele" due to how nice he'd be towards the kids before the experimentation. He often gave out candy and chocolate to the kids as well as talk, play and pat them on the back. This helped to calm and reassure the kids so that they would worry or be afraid for experimentation.
Experiments
If chosen, the twins would get picked up from the barracks and sent to the laboratories not knowing what would be done to them. Everyday each twin had to have they're blood drawn and often were forced to be fully naked for inspection on every single one of their body parts. Dr. Mengele would perform experiments such as blood transfusions from one twin to another. He would often inject poisons, drugs, and even diseases in one twin and used the other as the "control" group and after studies like these he would end up killing both twins for dissection. He would also cut and sew twins together in an attempt to create siamese twins but often failed due to a bad infection which led to death. He would also perform other surgeries without anesthesia including amputation, castration and sex change operations. He would also experiment to try to changes someone's eyes to make them blue by injecting chemicals into the eyes which caused pain and blindness. He would also stab and pierce through the heart which injected chloroform or penal to cause an almost immediate death. He also performed a study of isolation endurance to see if twins could be without eachother. In this study he would lock up each twin and make them completely isolated for extremely long periods of time. This caused severe mental pain.
